Our School

Dunning Foubert ES

We acknowledge that our learning is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Our School

Dunning-Foubert Elementary School is located at 1610 Prestwick Drive in Orleans. It was the first school located in Cumberland Township to offer Early French Immersion to residents of Cumberland. The school opened in 1981 and expanded in 1985 to its present size. The school is named after two of the founding families of the Cumberland area; Dunning and Foubert.

Dunning-Foubert began as a Kindergarten to Grade 5 structure. After the addition was constructed, intermediate students were welcomed. By 1987 - 88, the school grew to over 900 students, with 15 portable classrooms. At that time, it was the largest French Immersion centre in Canada.

Dunning-Foubert is a school dedicated to providing the best possible French Immersion and Regular English Programs. The staff devotes considerable time and energy in keeping abreast of current trends in education through Math, Language, Arts, Music and Technology projects.

As part of the mandated Full Day Learning provincial government initiative, Dunning-Foubert now has Full Day Kindergarten. The program started in September 2012 and continues to be a fabulous program for our youngest students. We continue to learn and reflect about our programming for these students. We have welcomed a group of Early Childhood Educators who support our teachers with their knowledge and expertise in working with younger students. This initiative has been very exciting. We continue to enjoy the learning and presence of this program in our school. This change has resulted in facility upgrades, playground redesigns, more resources and ongoing professional development for our staff and school.

When you arrive at Dunning-Foubert, you will notice that our school entrance reflects our history: past, present and future. Created by a grade 6 student in 1991, our student crest is carved in wood and is proudly displayed in our foyer. On the north wall, we have a wonderful Millennium mosaic representing our future and our love of the Arts. Our gym displays a large mural made by our intermediate students depicting school unity, and our junior corridor displays a tile collage with contributions from every student, celebrating the blending of Queenswood PS and Dunning-Foubert ES in September 2008.

Dunning-Foubert strives to provide an environment that meets the individual needs of students. The staff, students and parents work together to build a caring and productive learning community. Our academic programs provide opportunities for students to be independent thinkers, creative problem solvers and develop lifelong learning skills. We encourage students to gain experience in organizational and leadership activities and acquire the skills needed to achieve success in real life. Our school is handicap- accessible and includes specialized handicap washroom facilities.

Dunning- Foubert is proud to be the designated public school for the Queenswood Heights area of Orleans. We pride ourselves for being a very cohesive, talented staff that works well in this very community-oriented neighbourhood. Our School Council is vibrant, energetic and continues to enhance our school with their presence, creativity and involvement.

The parents also sponsor a Fall and Spring Dance to support family involvement and 'fun'. The variety of both engaging and creative initiatives ensures lots of community involvement and participation. We have access to a local library, an adjacent park with a skating rink, tennis courts and playing fields, all of which further enrich our curriculum. We have both a recreation complex, a skating rink and pool that students have available for programming.
